Working with Earthbound Spirits

The Drake Family Ghosts - Working with Earthbound Spirits

The Drake Family Ghosts –All in the Family - (Not really!!)
Patricia L. Walsh
While working with one’s own Ancestral Spirits can resolve lingering issues for oneself and the entire ‘family line’. I sometimes find families, that we have a strong association with, can also become part of our ‘Psychic Inheritance’ and may also need healing.
Especially when you buy a family business……
Drake Family Ghost 2
David was a talented draftsman, who went to work for a family run business that created sacred art for churches and religious memorials for the dead. The business was founded in 1857 by Robert Drake who passed the business to his son Christopher. Christopher ran the business for many years until the last 10 years of his life (he died in 1942) when he was bedridden with crippling arthritis and could not work.
Both Robert and Christopher were artists, who not only actively ran the family business but did all the designs themselves. Christopher had a son Warren, who did not follow in the family tradition, as he was not an artist, but had schooled in another career. Warren fell on hard times and was out of work in the 1930’s, while at the same time his father, Christopher, was becoming incapacitated with arthritis. Even though he was not an artist he agreed to take over the family business and run it for his ailing father.
Warren succeeded in steering the business through hard times by hiring talented help and using his own business sense. Warren ran the Drake family business for almost 40 years out of a sense of responsibility, even though it was not his calling in life. In his later years, around the time he had hired David he had become an alcoholic and was not that interested in the business anymore.
David came to a workshop talking about the Drake family business that he had purchased from Warren over 20 years ago. David had been hired by Warren and had worked in the family business for almost 40 years himself. Even though he was not a family member, as Warren became unable to run the business any longer, there were no surviving family members to take over, and David had made an offer to buy the business that was accepted.
It was clear that David was devoted to the business but he also complained about the feeling of “not having any choice… but.. to run the business”. He felt he wanted to do something different with his life, but was unable to bring himself to the point of even thinking about it, which made him feel frustrated and trapped. He said that he had always felt the Drake family spirits around but never gave this much thought. He had proudly carried on the business and even though he had been the owner, he never felt it was fully his own business, he felt more like a custodian. David seemed to be caught between the desires of the Drake ghosts to keep the business going and his own wish to find out who he truly was.
As David settled into a slightly altered state, it was Christopher who came forward first (speaking through David) saying that “The business must go on” and that he was keeping it going. Christopher was asked if he knew he was dead and he did not reply. He was asked two more times, and then he impatiently responded “ I can’t be dead I am busy at the studio, I have to run it because my son Warren was a miserable drunk and failed.” It was clear that Christopher and Warren, as father and son never reconciled in life or in the spirit world. At this point David informed Christopher that he had known his son and that in his opinion; Warren had done a terrific job in running the business. Christopher would hear nothing of the sort and continued berating his son and declaring that only he could run the business properly.
Despite the popular notion that all spirits die and ‘go to the light’, in working with them it becomes obvious, that parts of them can remain stuck in their own unresolved issues, creating a sort of bubble that they remain in the after-life. I call this a ‘Bardo-Bubble’ borrowing from the Tibetan Buddhist notion that the state of death and unresolved feelings and issues from one’s life, continue to influence ones reality in the after- life. The Tibetans called these self-created states of consciousness, Bardo’s – where ones thoughts and feelings do actually create reality, instantly! While many resources are available to spirits in the after-life (Loved ones, Helping spirits etc..) , if they are still consumed with the affairs of their earthly life, these spirits will remain close to the earth in state called “ Earthbound” which hinders their ability to actually take their rightful place ‘in the light’. Similar to how we can become consumed with issues and complexes during our lives, and don’t notice, or are unable to take advantage of, healing options that may be quite obvious to others….but we miss, because we are in our own little bubble of limited awareness.
We felt that before Christopher and his son could reconcile, that the original founder of the family business (Christopher’s father Robert) could be asked to come and mediate. It seemed that it had not occurred to Christopher that he could converse with his father in the after-life and when Robert (the Patriarch) showed up Christopher fell into a stunned silence. Robert reminded Christopher that when he turned the business over to him that he done so with free will and had given him the freedom to run it as he saw fit.
Robert said he was disappointed that Christopher had been unable to let his son Warren, and now David, run the business with the same freedom. He told him “When I died I sought the light, why have you not joined me here?” Christopher was remorseful and also stunned to realize that there was a better place to go, rather than stay around the business. But he would not be ready to fully be at peace until he reconciled with his son. Robert acted as a firm yet compassionate mediator when Christopher and Warren came together to discuss the bitterness between them. Robert also reminded Christopher that it was Warren who cared for him when he was ill, and even though Warren was not an artist, he ran the business well enough to provide for him in the last 10 years of his life.
With careful guidance Christopher and Warren were able to reconcile. Warren had been in the shadows himself, feeling his father recrimination and weighed down by his own guilt over his alcoholism. Warren had died very depressed. But now father and son slowly started to heal as Christopher began to see how unfair he had been to his son. He hesitantly asked for forgiveness, and Warren tearfully gave it. Warren told his father “I only wanted you to be proud of me, thank you for accepting me finally as I am and appreciating me.”
All the spirits were now at peace and Christopher and Warren both wanted to let David know that the business was now fully his. That he did not have to carry their problems anymore on his shoulders. Christopher told David “Thank you for taking care of the business, it is yours to do with as you want.” With a laugh that was full of relief he told him “Sell the damn thing if you want.”
David urged them all to be at peace and to go into the light with Robert, which they did.
David said that he immediately felt relived and free from the Drake family ghosts “as if a huge weight lifted off my shoulders when they left.”
This is a common effect of working with spirits - either in a geographical location or when they are lingering in one’s own energy field. There is an immediate feeling of lightness…spaciousness and a lifting of whatever emotional complex the spirit had….that leaves with the spirit as it ascends.
In the light
After he returned to work he reported that his whole relationship to the business changed, the heaviness of responsibility was gone and he felt for the first time in twenty years that the business was finally all his. He felt free to make creative decisions about changing, leaving or even selling the business, that he could hardly even conceptualize before.
Because David was intrinsically a responsible person who followed through on his promises, he made a great vehicle for the unfinished business of the Drake family, he had been carrying….
Christopher, who had never been able to complete running the business as he wanted because he fell ill. Certainly after ten years of being bedridden, he probably ruminated a lot about what he would do if he was able. He certainly was frustrated with his own limitations, and took that out on his son.... Warren.
Warren took the responsibility of it all, yet never got the reward he really wanted- his father’s appreciation. Further, Warren was bound by duty and didn’t get to live his true potential. He never really wanted the business and never got to find out who he really was. This obviously weighed on him as he sunk into depression and alcoholism.
Poor David had not only Christopher driving him, but Warren’s heavy sense of duty and failure… that was the cloud that lifted…………… when the Drake Family spirits found their place in the light.

Workout on Intrusive Energy

Intrusive Energy

The nature of everything is illusory and ephemeral. How pitiful they who clingstrongly to concrete reality. Turn your attention within my friends.  Nyoshul Khenpo
From the previous chapters I have illustrated how souls split their energy before incarnating and how the incarnated part can become earthbound. Eventually this soul energy will return to the spirit world and be reunited with the rest of the soul.

Background

Can this earthbound soul energy become attached to people in this life? The subtle body is designed to protect us from energies other than our own. When our protection is down, energy can be accumulated into our current life in the form of negative thoughts and emotions. When it comes to soul energy attachments the pioneers who have done most work in the area are William Baldwin, who wrote the book Spirit Releasement Therapy,1 and Louise Ireland-Frey in her book Freeing the Captives.  2 They take the position that the spiritual energy not following the normal path of going to the spirit realms often contains unresolved traumatic memories. This is attracted to living people with similar problems in a form of a psychic resonance. It can be a particular desire such as violence, suffering, or an addiction to drink or drugs. Alternatively it may identify with a particular emotion such as anger, depression or guilt. Sometimes it may just want companionship and is drawn to the compassion of the host. It can attach itself to a person’s energy field after it has been weakened by events such as life traumas, accidents, operations, excessive drinking or drug taking. An example of this is drawn from William Baldwin’s book, Spirit ReleasementTherapy:

Gerry was in his forties and worked for a US city fire department . He was the first to reach a lakeside dock where a drowning victim had been pulled from the water. He applied mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and was angry when it was to no avail. Gerry then behaved differently than he normally did in such circumstances. He walked to the hospital where the body had gone and tried to get through the doors in the emergency treatment room to where the body had been carried. He felt a powerful compulsion just to stay close to it. Other aspects of his life deteriorated too. Not until the spirit of the drowned boy was released from him did it become clear what had happened. His strong negative feelings of anger had opened a chink in his normal protection.

This view on spirit attachment is controversial. Michael Newton reports that in over 30 years of research he has never had a client during a spiritual regression that has reported having a spirit attachment from another spirit, friendly or otherwise. His clients have talked about the existence of an abundance of negative energy from other people’s intense emotions of anger, hate and fear which has been attracted to negative thinkers. Dolores Cannon in her book Between Death and Life 3 has some client reports that spirit attachment occurs but only when there is an imbalance in the host’s energy field. However, one of her clients reported that all suspected spirit attachments are negative energies that have been attracted to them.

In the world of regression therapy the pioneers Hans TenDam and Roger Woolger both work with spirit attachments. Alan Sanderson, a retired psychiatrist from England and founder of the Spirit Release Foundation,4 takes the view that many mental health problems are associated with spirit attachments. Other regression therapists take the position of Michael Newton or go further and suggest this whole area is the result of a client’s sub-personalities from unresolved trauma becoming linked to vivid fantasies.
I find that clients have inner world experiences that appear to be spirit attachments or powerful negative thought forms that they have attracted.
Collectively I call this intrusive energy. By treating it as this, the framework of clearing becomes quick and many unwanted behaviors and emotional symptoms are either reduced or removed. Intrusive energy can be encountered before or during regression therapy and it needs clearing in the process of working with a client’s complex. This chapter is not intended to be fully comprehensive but sufficient for practical use with most forms of intrusive energy commonly encountered. For those wanting more in-depth information I recommend the William Baldwin or Louise Ireland-Frey books mentioned earlier from which I have selectively used or adapted their techniques.

 Detection

For those familiar with kinesiology a muscle-testing technique can be used.
Muscles will become weak in the presence of something that is stressing the energy system. Gentle pressure can be applied to a muscle such as a bent arm and the client asked to resist the pressure. All that is needed is to say the words of the test and the arm will go down if this is stressing the energy.

Those unfamiliar with kinesiology can use the energy scan discussed in the previous chapters. However, the intention now is looking for energy not belonging to the client:
I’m going to scan for any energy that does not belong with you. Withyour eyes closed focus on the area around your body as my handmoves slowly several inches from your body from your toes to yourhead. Tell me the part of the body that feels lighter or heavier ordifferent in any way.

While the scan is underway the client can be encouraged to focus on different areas:
I’m scanning the energy around your feet ... lower legs … knees …
(and other parts of the body)
The scan may need to be repeated two or three times, because each one increases the sensitivity for both the therapist and client. Ideo finger signaling linked to the client’s higher mind is another technique. Following an energy scan or light trance, the following steps can be used:

I want to communicate to your higher mind through your fingers.

Just let your conscious mind drift to the background.

I’d like your higher mind to lift a finger on your left hand to indicateYES. Wait for a finger to lift.  Good.

I’d like your higher mind to lift another finger on your left hand toindicate NO. Wait for a finger to lift.  Good.

Normally there will be a delay in responding and slight finger movement. If not, conscious mind involvement may be involved and further trance depth may be necessary.

The presence and number of intrusive energies can be detected using the
ideo fingers to indicate the answer. Rather than alarm the client I refer to intrusive energy as energy not belonging to the client.

The following questions can be asked, waiting for the response and then acknowledging it: Higher mind, is there any energy not belonging to ... (the client)?

Higher mind, are there 2 (or 3, 4, etc.) or more energies notbelonging to …. (the client)?
From the answers it is possible to identify the presence and numbers of intrusive energies to be dealt with.

Those therapists new to this work may prefer to use both techniques to be quite sure that they have identified intrusive energy.

This is useful because occasionally a spirit attachment can interfere with the client’s ideo finger, giving an incorrect response.

To begin, find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed for the next 25 minutes, and follow each of these steps precisely.

By the end, you’ll see how quickly Heartfulness can place you in a loving, peaceful state. You may even have some insights about your destiny, too.
Heartfulness Cleaning
We do the practice of Heartfulness Cleaning at the end of the working day, ideally before sunset, refreshing ourselves and creating a vacuum within, purifying our system of its accumulated heaviness. Although it is simple, there are a number of steps to Cleaning, so in the beginning it is better to practice them in sequence, as follows:
  • Sit in a comfortable position with the intention to remove all the impressions accumulated during the day.
  • Close your eyes and feel relaxed.
  • Imagine all the complexities and impurities are leaving your entire system.
  • They are going out from your back, from the top of your head to your tailbone.
  • Feel they are leaving your system as smoke.
  • Remain alert during the entire process, like a witness to the clouds passing in the sky.
  • Gently accelerate this process with confidence and determination, applying your will as needed.
  • If your attention drifts and events of the day begin to come to mind, gently bring your focus back to the cleaning.
  • As the impressions are leaving from your back, you will start to feel light in your heart.
  • Continue this process for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • When you experience inner lightness, you will naturally find it easy to connect with the Source.
  • Feel a current of purity coming from the Source and entering your system from the front.
  • This current is flowing throughout your system, carrying away any remaining complexities and impurities.
  • You have now returned to a simpler, purer, and more balanced state. Every cell of your body is emanating simplicity, lightness, and purity.
We hope you feel renewed by this incredible Heartfulness Cleaning. This is just the beginning.

If you’d like more Heartfulness practices, you can order Daaji’s new book, Designing Destiny now.

Heal through Past life regression therapy

The decision to use regression therapy must be reached jointly by client and therapist after discussion, so that each understands its possibilities and limits. Past-life insights have their greatest impact on those clients who are ready to begin assuming greater responsibility for their lives and who sincerely wish to understand how current problems relate to deeply embedded emotional response patterns that they have long been avoiding or denying. Although no specific religious or philosophical belief is required, I explain that for me it is a spiritual process. The ability to suspend disbelief, at least during the session, is more helpful than any specific belief held. I have found regression therapy to be useful in dealing with the following kinds of specific problems:
1. Emotional over-reactions to the ordinary kind of stress-producing situations encountered in life. Symptoms may be purely psychological or may include physical impairments or distress. Long-standing and/or disabling phobias are included here.
2. Psychosomatic complaints such as persistent headaches, sexual dysfunctioning (frigidity, impotence or premature ejaculation), and "phantom" back pain. (These are just a few of the many such complaints that can be alleviated by regression therapy.)
3. Inexplicable and enduring relationship difficulties such as excessive fear or dislike of a fellow worker, family member, or people of specific ethnic or cultural groups.
4. Certain creative blocks.
5. Persistent or seemingly innate negative character traits such as chronic tardiness, compulsive eating, drinking, or smoking.
6. Psychospiritual breakdowns, including feelings of lack of self-worth, anorexia, hopelessness, and excessive grieving for a deceased loved one.
Regression therapy is contraindicated for:
1. Clients whose symptoms indicate clearly psychotic or borderline personality disorders.
2. Clients who reveal themselves as incapable of integrating the traumatic or symbolic material that may arise and who therefore risk severe ego confusion or a psychotic break.
3. Most children under 16, unless there has been a spontaneous eruption of past-life material that is disrupting their ego development. However, children are appearing now who need to remember past lives—especially as we enter the Aquarian Age.
4. Clients obviously seeking to escape personal responsibility for their current behavioral or attitudinal problems or who seek ego aggrandizement by association with a past-life heroic figure.
